“You all are the eyes and ears of the people. You are the voice of the people. As a leader, I respect and acknowledge the important role of the media. Without your hard work and dedication, it would be difficult for our society to make wise decisions based on accurate information.

“In the era of rapidly developing information technology, the role of journalists is becoming more challenging yet more important than ever. You are now the main bulwark against the spread of fake news and misleading information,” said Nanta in a press statement today.

Nanta who is also Kapit MP took the opportunity to welcome all media involved in the Hawana 2024 celebration themed “Ethics at the Core of Sustainable Journalism” which was held in Kuching, and hoped that for the journalists outside Sarawak, they may enjoy and experience the uniqueness of Sarawak.

Commenting on the theme for Hawana 2024, Nanta expressed his belief that this is the opinion of the majority of media practitioners in Malaysia who prioritize the practice of ‘responsible journalism’ in order to deliver news that builds the people and the country.

“On this meaningful day, I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to all of you who have worked hard to deliver accurate, balanced and quality news and information to the people of this country,” said Nanta. — DayakDaily
