Jonah delivers Sarawak’s first gold medal at 20th Sukma

KUCHING, Sept 15: Jonah Chang Rigan delivered Sarawak’s first gold medal at the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Kuala Lumpur today.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the 18-year-old athlete from Sarikei recorded a successful throw of 16.65 metres in the men’s shotbput event, which landed him on the top podium, beating two other athletes from Perlis and Perak.

Meanwhile, Grace Wong Xiu Mei also won a silver medal in the women’s shot put event with the throw of 12.44 metres, while Vanessa Niega Franky contributed bronze in the women’s discus throw event held earlier, with a throw of 35.38 metres.

Meanwhile, the Sarawak wushu team added one more silver and one bronze in the men’s and women’s Taijiquan events.

The silver medal was contributed by Mok Xiao Yuan who managed to garner 9.5700 points, while Yong Arifah Khairul Kok won her second bronze medal with 9.530 points.
