Join SFC’s webinar on ‘Hornbills of Sarawak’ on July 21

SFC's special webinar on 'Hornbills of Sarawak' will take place on July 21.

KUCHING, July 16: Tune in to Sarawak Forestry Corporation’s (SFC) special webinar next Wednesday (July 21) at 2pm to learn more about the hornbills of Sarawak and the conservation efforts in the State to preserve their habitat.

According to SFC in a media statement today, the webinar is organised in conjunction with the Sarawak Day celebrations.

The two-hour programme will feature SFC hornbill experts like its general manager Oswald Braken Tisen, head of Totally Protected Area (TPA) management Dr Victor Luna Amin, head of Habitat Research and Conservation Section Connie Geri, conservation officers Lily Sir and Sim Lee Kheng as well as park warden of Piasau Nature Reserve Louis Velda Dominic Salon.
Head of Biodiversity Conservation and Research Dr Melvin Gumal will moderate the webinar.
Oswald will talk about the overview of hornbill conservation in Sarawak while Dr Victor on the folklore and taboos associated with hornbills in Sarawak, Connie on the plants and trees used by hornbills; Lily and Sim on the Hornbill Project in Lanjak Entimau Wildlife Sanctuary and Louis on the Oriental-Pied hornbill in Piasau Nature Reserve.

SFC chief executive officer (CEO) and the Controller of Wild Life, Zolkipli Mohamad Aton pointed out that hornbill is an important bird and cultural symbol for the people of Sarawak.

“The Rhinoceros hornbill represents the State’s emblem. However, many Sarawakians cannot identify our own state bird.


“Hence, in conjunction with this meaningful Sarawak Day, I invite you to join this webinar and learn more about hornbills,” he encouraged.
