Jobless man jailed for threatening to hurt, kill his mother

KUCHING, June 20: A 56-year-old unemployed man was today sentenced to 16 months’ jail for threating to injure his mother’s neck and kill her, too.

Accused Ha Tiing Hui pleaded guilty before Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof to the two charges framed against him.

Nuruhuda sentenced him to 8 months’ jail for each charge but ordered that the imprisonment term to run concurrently, meaning Ha has to serve only 8 months of jail time.

For the first charge, Ha pleaded guiting to threatening to kill his mother at their house in Taman Sri Jaya, Matang, at about 5am on March 11 this year. He was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for this criminal offence, which carries a maximum imprisonment term of 7 years or with fine or both, if convicted.

For the second charge, he was found to have voluntarily caused hurt to his mother on the same day. He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same Code, which carries maximum imprisonment of 1 year or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both, upon conviction.

DPP Muhammad Hafiz Musa and prosecuting officer Merelyne Lindan Andrew Mang prosecuted, while the accused was not represented. — DayakDaily
