Jobless man from Lawas arrested for drug possession

MIRI, Feb 9: A 32-year-old man from Lawas was arrested behind a bank at Pelita Commercial Centre here at 10.05pm yesterday for drug possession.

Miri deputy police chief Supt Sabri Zainol said personnel from Miri Narcotic Department moved in when they spotted the suspect behaving suspiciously behind the bank, and they found 80.90g of drugs in his possession.

The drugs are estimated to be worth RM12,950 in the street.

“The drugs were found inside one of his pockets during a body inspection,” said Sabri.

The unemployed suspect was then taken to Miri Central police station (CPS) for further questioning.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty upon conviction. — DayakDaily
