KUCHING, Apr 7: Phase 2 of the RM49 million 7.4-kilometre Jalan Temong-Tepoi project, expected to benefit 5,000 residents in Kampung Tebedu, Temong Mawang, Mura, Putah, Bengan, and Tepoi, has recorded a physical progress of 8.5 per cent, slightly below the initial target of 9.5 per cent.

However, according to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), monthly progress has been gradually improving, rising from 0.26 per cent in January to 0.37 per cent in February and 0.47 per cent in March, signalling steady advancement despite the slight delay.

To assess the project’s progress and address on-site challenges, a site visit was conducted by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak, Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada, Tebedu District Officer Gerard George Entigar, and technical officers today.

The project is being carried out by Perbena Emas Sdn Bhd over a 26-month period from June 6, 2025, to Aug 8, 2027, under the supervision of the Serian Public Works Department (JKR).

JKR highlighted that weather conditions, hilly terrain, large boulders, and steep slopes pose construction challenges, requiring precise methods and specialised machinery.

Once completed, the new road is expected to significantly improve accessibility for rural communities, facilitate agricultural development, and offer safer and more comfortable travel compared with the existing narrow and congested route. — DayakDaily
