KUCHING, Dec 22: The remand period for two suspects involved in the murder of a 22-year-old man at a gated apartment complex in Jalan Sungai Tapang, Kota Sentosa, has been extended by five days until December 27.
Kuching High Court assistant registrar Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali granted the extension for the fifth and sixth suspects, aged 32 and 43, after their initial remand expired today.
It was also revealed that the remand for the fourth suspect, aged 48, was extended for another seven days, until December 28, after the expiry of their previous remand on Saturday.
Initially, the fourth suspect was held for six days, while the fifth and sixth suspects were remanded for seven days.
The case originated from an incident on December 1, 2024, at around 4.30am when a security guard reportedly heard a commotion and saw several individuals vandalising a black Lexus parked under one of the blocks.
Upon further investigation, the security guard and a colleague discovered signs of a break-in at one of the units.
Police responding to the scene found the victim, who is from Miri, lying in a pool of blood inside the apartment.
Six suspects have been arrested in connection with the case. Three were detained on December 1 but released after their remand period ended. The fourth, fifth, and sixth suspects were apprehended on December 14.
The fourth and fifth suspects were arrested outside the Kuching Court, while the sixth suspect was taken into custody later that evening at the Kota Sentosa Police Station.
The police requested extended remand periods to allow for further questioning of the suspects and to identify other individuals potentially involved in the case.
The investigation is ongoing under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for life and whipping upon conviction. — DayakDaily
