KUCHING, Nov 20: A road junction along Jalan Salim Lorong 18 will be rebuilt immediately effective today for the convenience of road users after nearby underground pipe installation projects forced the road to become inaccessible to motorists.
Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) said the recovery of the road junction is expected to be completed this Thursday (Nov 25) to help local residents avoid making big detours to reach their homes.
Two road junctions at Jalan Salim Lorong 18 were closed due to a new pipe installation project, which is part of the Kanowit Phase 2 Project (Stage 2) involving the installation of 1,000mm diameter pipelines from Salim Water Treatment Plant, Sibu Water Board (SWB) to Jalan Salim intersection, Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce.
“JBALB Sarawak apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the installation work of the new pipeline concerned. We take every complaint, especially those involving the public interest and welfare, very seriously,” it said in a statement today.
JBALB was responding to a statement by Dudong potential candidate Wong Ching Yong yesterday (Nov 19) who on the same evening contacted JBALB Sibu regional manager Afiza Morshidi to inform her of the issue.
Wong had urged local authorities to reinstate a link road from Jalan Salim to Lorong 18 as soon as possible.
He filed the report following complaints from residents along Jalan Salim Lorong 18 that the connecting road to their houses was demolished to make way for the pipe installations.
Although the project to boost water pressure in Farley and Sing Kwong areas was welcomed by locals, they expressed hope for the contractor and related parties to be more considerate when carrying out related projects. — DayakDaily
