BETONG, Aug 12: The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak has embarked on XPDC 3.0, focusing on “Last Mile” infrastructure projects along routes extending from Ulu Skrang to Ulu Kota and Ulu Entabai, particularly former logging roads that require upgrading.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the two-day expedition, from Aug 12 to 13, aims to assess first-hand the progress and condition of infrastructure projects in the interior, particularly those expected to directly benefit rural communities.
He said the Sarawak government had decided to take over former logging roads as their current condition requires upgrading to improve connectivity to interior areas that still lack proper road networks.
“Our objective is to assess the condition of these former logging roads, which the Sarawak Government has decided to take over because they are in need of upgrading,” he told reporters before the departure of the XPDC 3.0 convoy at the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan Sports Hall today, as reported by TVS.
Uggah, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, said the expedition involves personnel from JKR, the District Police Headquarters (IPD), Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), the Betong Resident’s Office and the Engkilili District Office.
“The various agencies are working together to assess the conditions on the ground and subsequently plan the necessary measures,” he said.
He added that the Sarawak government remains committed to ensuring the “Last Mile” projects are fully implemented and carried out effectively.
According to Uggah, the involvement of multiple government agencies in XPDC 3.0 also reflects a joint commitment to ensuring infrastructure development in rural areas is implemented in a planned and effective manner.
Today, the team, which also included Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo and JKR Sarawak director Datu Ir Cassidy Morris, visited KM13+800, KM21+900 and Jalan Pinchoh in Ulu Skrang to assess the condition and progress of the infrastructure along the route. — DayakDaily
