KUCHING, Mar 24: The Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak is currently implementing 29 bridge projects across Sarawak, covering the divisions of Kuching, Serian, Sibu, Kapit and Miri as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen rural development in the State.

The projects are aimed at enhancing accessibility, safety and connectivity for rural communities, particularly in areas where rivers and difficult terrain have long posed challenges to mobility.

Once completed, the bridges are expected to significantly ease daily travel for residents, while improving links between villages and nearby towns.

The improved connectivity will also enable faster and more reliable access to essential services, including schools, healthcare facilities and economic centres, thereby supporting socio-economic growth and improving overall quality of life in rural areas.

According to the department, the implementation of these projects reflects Sarawak’s continued focus on expanding infrastructure to ensure balanced development between urban and rural regions.

The initiative also aligns with broader efforts to improve transport networks and facilitate the movement of goods and people across the State.

JKR Sarawak added that the timely completion of these projects will play a key role in supporting rural transformation, while reinforcing connectivity as a foundation for sustainable development in Sarawak. — DayakDaily
