KUCHING, Aug 13: Sarawak State Health Department (JKNS) has received another eight containers the size of 40 feet each with personal protective equipment (PPEs) worth about RM5 million from China today.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the containers included 110,800 pieces of jumpsuits or medical coveralls, 145,000 pieces of isolation gowns and 67,700 pieces of long-sleeved gowns.
These PPEs, he added, are to be distributed immediately to more than 40 health facilities throughout Sarawak.
“The 8 x 40ft containers of medical PPEs were shipped directly from the supplier’s warehouses in Wei Fang and Jinan all the way to Kuching for final and immediate distribution to all the medical centres in Sarawak,” he said in a statement today.
Dr Sim, who is also Minister for Local Government and Housing, said statistics from JKNS showed that Sarawak’s monthly usage for PPEs has been over RM5 million.
Meanwhile, he noted the Sarawak government spent RM10 million and another RM35 million from the federal government for expenses on PPEs for the year 2021 up until now.
Among those present to receive the shipment were also JKNS principal assistant director Lee Wee Ju, JKNS deputy director (Public Health) Dr Rosemawati Ariffin, MLGH deputy principal secretary Desmond Douglas Jerukan and East Coast Freight Forwarders (S) Sdn Bhd general manager Andy Lester. — DayakDaily
