KUCHING, Oct 31: Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing passed away this morning due to complications from Covid-19.

Masing, 72, drew his last breath at 7.05am in Normah Sarawak Medical Centre.

Prior to this, the Minister of Infrastructure and Ports Development tested positive for Covid-19 on Sept 28, despite having completed two doses of the Covid-19 vaccination.

He was, on the same day, admitted to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH)’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with Category 3 symptoms such as fever, cough, loss of appetite and excessive fluid in lungs.

Born March 5, 1949, Masing had served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak under the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem and current Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg since May 2016.

Since 2004, he also helmed Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) as its founder and first president until his passing. He was also the Sarawak State Border Security Committee (SBSC) chairman.

Masing had been Baleh assemblyman for eight consecutive terms since 1983. — DayakDaily
