KUCHING, March 19: The newly declared government training academy cluster dubbed the Jalan Taiton Cluster in Bau has seen 75 individuals test positive for Covid-19 so far, including the index case.
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a report today, disclosed the cluster involved trainers, facilitators and staff members of the academy.
Investigations found the index case of the cluster to be one of the academy facilitators, a local male who was detected positive for Covid-19 through a self-test on March 13.
“The spread of the infection is believed to be due to close association and contact among staff, trainers and facilitators in the academy,” said SDMC.
A total of 139 individuals have been swabbed, and 64 samples returned negative results.
SDMC gave assurance that all positive cases have been admitted to the Bau Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC) or quarantined at the academy itself.
As of today, Sarawak has six active clusters. ā DayakDaily
