KUCHING, Jan 14: The Jalan Baru Matang project is nearing completion, with works now at 91.57 per cent and expected to be completed by March 15.

According to a Facebook post by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), the long-awaited project is expected to ease congestion in the rapidly growing Matang area, which has seen a steady increase in traffic volume in recent years.

“This project will improve traffic flow, enhance road user safety, and support development growth in the Kuching area,” said JKR in the post.

The project involves upgrading a 4.4km stretch of Jalan Baru Matang into a dual carriageway from Matang Jaya to the Batu Kawa–Matang Junction, one of Kuching’s busiest routes. Traffic management measures have been put in place to ensure smoother and safer travel during the construction period.

Once completed, the upgraded road is expected to bring significant benefits to road users and nearby communities.

JKR Sarawak also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all projects are implemented according to schedule for the well-being of the people. — DayakDaily
