It was a joke, claim suspects in viral video showing fake gun incident in Metrocity Matang

KUCHING, June 24: Three men were arrested by a police team from the Kuching Police Headquarters branch and the Sarawak Contingent Headquarters following a viral 13-second video from a Telegram account.

In the video, a man is seen pointing what appeared to be a pistol at another man who is inside a car at the Metrocity Matang parking area.

The police also confiscated a fake pistol and a Perodua Axia during the arrest.

Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted to being involved in the video, claiming it was made as a joke.

Further inspection revealed that one of the suspects had a past record of involvement in violent crime.

All three suspects will be remanded on June 24 to assist in the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 36(1) of the Arms Act 1960, which stipulates a prison sentence of not less than one year or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or both; and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, where if found guilty, the suspects could face a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or imprisonment not exceeding one year, or both. — DayakDaily
