KUCHING, Jan 18: Sarawak is set to have an international-standard ship terminal at Damai Beach within the next two years, as part of the State’s ongoing Santubong-Damai development plan aimed at boosting tourism and economic growth in the area.
According to a report by TVS, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, Kuching North City Hall, and Religious Affairs), said the terminal is expected to be built to allow international cruise ships to berth directly at Damai.
He added that the construction of the terminal aligns with the comprehensive development plan for the Santubong-Damai Zone, which is currently being actively implemented by the Sarawak government.
“Within the next two years, we will welcome international cruise ships once the Damai ship terminal is completed, and this is expected to significantly boost tourist arrivals in Kuching,” he told reporters after officiating the launch of Kuching North City Hall’s 2026 Calendar of Events and the Kuching Car Free Morning programme at Padang Merdeka today. – DayakDaily
