KUCHING, Apr 14: The deployment of Sarawak Coastguard interceptor boats will help improve security control along Sarawak’s waters.
According to the news report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the head of the Miri Sarawak Security and Enforcement Unit (UKPS), Renold Ngelayang Lingu, said the deployment of these assets is a significant initiative by the Sarawak government to increase coastal security control and preserving the environment in line with the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).
“These assets will be assigned to enforce state laws on the coast and rivers of Sarawak, search and rescue operations, security control in official water events, and will also assist the assignment of other security agencies,” he said.
Reynold said this during a ‘doa selamat’ (prayer for safety) ceremony in conjunction with the deployment of the Sarawak Coastguard Interceptor in Miri on Thursday (April 13).
He added that since the announcement of the establishment of the Sarawak Coastguard by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, UKPS has successfully commissioned six interceptor boats.
“One of these six interceptors will be located at UKPS Miri Headquarters.
“UKPS hopes that the presence of the Sarawak Coastguard will help and cooperate with existing security agencies for related tasks in the future,” he added.
Meanwhile, the event also saw the handover of the Sarawak Coastguard Flag as a symbol that the asset had arrived safely in Miri. — DayakDaily
