KUCHING, Aug 23: The laborious work to prepare linut or ambuyat, one of Sarawak’s famous delicacies, may now be a thing of the past, with an instant version now available to the public.
The dish has many fans among all the Sarawak races.
With a texture and appearance similar to glue paste, linut is basically sago flour cooked with hot water.
As simple as it sounds, preparing linut is time-consuming as it requires the right technique to whisk sago flour together with boiling water to create the starchy mixture.
Eaten on its own, linut is tasteless, and thus is often paired with condiments and side dishes such as sambal belacan, midin, or even fish in gravy to give the dish a spicy and tangy kick.
Now, the traditional Melanau dish was spotted being sold in instant or ready-to-eat form under the label LarisS Instant Linut Segera. This version requires less than five minutes of preparation.
All that is needed is to add boiling water to the ingredients including linut powder and linut water in the cup package.
Stir until the ingredients combine into its glue paste-like form, then mix in the sambal paste and it ready to be eaten anywhere, anytime.
