KUCHING, Aug 21: An inmate who is still undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at the Kuching Drug Rehabilitation Centre claimed trial to a charge of attempting to sodomize an inmate at the centre.
Paran Imang, 24, who is represented by Counsel Abdul Rahman Mohamad Hazmi pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Nuruhuda Mohd Yusof fixed September 24 for pre-trial case management.
The accused is under the lawful custody of the said rehabilitation centre. He was charged with attempting to sodomize a 31-year-old inmate, at about 7pm on April 2, 2019, in the Kuching Drug Rehabilitation Centre dormitory.
He was charged under Section 20(1)(d) of the Drug Dependants Act 1983, which carries a fine or an imprisonment term not exceeding three years or both. — DayakDaily
