KUCHING, March 6: An Information Department officer attached with the Kuching/Samarahan office has claimed trial at the Magistrate’s Court here today for misappropriating funds allocated to the department.
The accused, Normala Juatan, pleaded not guilty to the charge framed.
Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar fixed April 3 for mention and allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM6,000 with two employed local sureties.
She was believed to have misappropriated cash of RM6,034.45, being the balance of RM15,000 allocated by Information Department of Malaysia for a national day programme, at Department of Information Kuching/Samarahan, at about 5pm on Sept 6, 2017.
She was charged under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which carries an imprisonment term between six months and five years, and whipping and with fine, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Nisla Abd Latif prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented. — DayakDaily
