Infant among 84 illegal immigrants nabbed in Bekenu

Some of the illegal immigrants who were rounded up during an operation at an estate in Bekenu in the wee hours today (Jan 18).

MIRI, Jan 18: A one-year-old infant was among eight children and 76 adults rounded up during an operation codenamed `Ops Libas’ at an estate in Bekenu, off Miri-Bintulu Road, at about 2am today.

The oldest among the illegal immigrants collared was 50. All of them are Indonesians, and they did not have valid documents to enter the state.


The operation was mounted by 39 personnel from the Miri General Operations Force (GOF) Battalion 12 and eight enforcement officers from the Immigration Department here.

Miri GOF commanding officer Supt Tan Hiap Seng said in a press statement today that the operation was launched following a stakeout done earlier.

Those arrested are detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959//63. They have been referred to the Miri Immigration Department for further action. — DayakDaily
