Industri 121 Kuala Baram Cluster confirmed after 132 plywood factory workers test positive for Covid-19

KUCHING, July 5: Some 132 workers of a plywood factory in Miri have tested positive for Covid-19, giving rise to a new workplace cluster dubbed the Industri 121 Kuala Baram Cluster.

Out of the 132 workers who tested positive for the coronavirus, 125 were foreigners while the rest were Sarawakians.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily Covid-19 update, the plywood factory has been placed under an Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

At present, a total of 221 individuals have been tested, with 132 confirmed positive, 60 negative and the balance of 29 individuals are awaiting Covid-19 swab test results.

SDMC said all the Covid-19 patients have been admitted to Miri Hospital and the Covid-19 Low-Risk and Quarantine Centre (PKRC) in Miri for isolation and treatment.

The Industri 121 Kuala Baram Cluster is one of the three new clusters confirmed in Sarawak today.

The others are the Sungai Sebetan Cluster in Saratok and the Sega Cluster in Bau.

Meanwhile, the Hulu Spaoh Cluster in Betong and Jalan Airport Cluster in Miri have ended.

With this, there are still 98 active clusters in Sarawak with 12 of these reporting 238 new cases today. — DayakDaily
