Indonesian man among 3 arrested following night market altercation in Sibu

SIBU, July 23: Police have arrested three suspects for their alleged involvement in a violent altercation at a night market at Jalan Cross in Sibu.

In a statement, Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the three suspects are a 31-year-old Indonesian man and two local men aged 31 and 35.

He said that police received a report on the incident at 8.46pm on July 22.

“The incident occurred when one of the suspects, who appeared intoxicated, caused a disturbance and damaged a stall at the scene.

“Several individuals who were at the scene took action by attacking the suspect and causing several injuries at the same time,” he said.

He added that all three suspects have no criminal records and have been remanded to assist in the investigation.

Police are still trying to identify other suspects who were involved in the incident, and the case will be investigated under Section 427/147 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both.
