Indonesian arrested near border for entering state illegally

KUCHING, Dec 14: A 27-year-old Indonesian man was arrested by the police near the Malaysia-Indonesia border in Bau, for attempting to enter the state illegally, yesterday.

According to Bau police chief DSP Poge Nyaon in a statement, the arrest was made by a Bau police headquarters (IPD BAU) Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit, together with Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel, during a routine patrol in Kampung Skibang yesterday.

“Upon inspection, the man was found to have no valid travel documentation, and is believed to have entered the country illegally using “jalan tikus”,” he added.

Poge noted, the arrest was conducted in accordance with the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP), with assistance from the Civil Defense Force (APM)’s ambulance unit, using full personal protective equipment (PPE).

“The case is being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he added. — DayakDaily
