PONTIANAK, July 7: The Indonesian government is keen on relocating its immigration office nearer to the existing border post at Telok Melano, Sarawak, to attract more tourists to Temajuk Beach in Sambas Regency.
The Governor of West Kalimantan Province, Sutarmidji, explained that the immigration office is located in Desa Liku of Paloh District which is 3km away from the border.
This means tourists visiting Temajuk Beach would have to take a detour at Desa Liku to obtain cross-border passbooks or Immigration stamps.
“From what I understand, the (Malaysian) immigration post already exists (at the border), so I have requested that our immigration post be located there as well.
“If that can be realised latest by next year, the border-crossing activities will go smoothly,” he said when receiving a courtesy call from the Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association (FSJA) delegation at his office here yesterday (July 6).
He further mentioned, among other efforts to promote Temajuk Beach as a tourism spot; the government has started building up better road infrastructure and focusing on setting up Internet coverage along the way. — DayakDaily
