Inculcate team spirit and sportsmanship at PESAYA games, says State Secretary Abu Bakar

KUCHING, Feb 2: Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki urges athletes participating in the 14th edition of the Malaysia State Foundation Inter-State Sports Festival (PESAYA) to inculcate a strong team spirit and sportsmanship during the competition to be hosted by Sarawak Foundation.

“It would be clear that team spirit and sportsmanship needs to be maintained by all contingents participating as they are the main keys to winning in every competition,’’ he said.

“Therefore, I hope that all the participants can show a positive attitude to the contingents coming from abroad who will also participate in this competition later,” he added.

Abu Bakar said this in his speech at the Flag Handover Ceremony to the event’s chef de mission at the Jamilah Hall, Sarawak Foundation today.

He pointed out the objective of the game is to strengthen the relationship between state foundations in Malaysia through a common direction that would strengthen and develop joint ventures established for a long time.

The states participating in the forthcoming tournament are Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Sabah, Selangor, Terengganu, and Federal Territories.

A total of fifteen types of sports would be contested under the slogan ‘Unity in Diversity Through Sports’.

Sarawak will send a total of 163 athletes to compete in Football, Badminton, Handball, Netball, Volleyball, Tenpin Bowling, Darts, E-Sports, Futsal, Golf, Carom, Petanque, Ping Pong and Sepak Takraw.

Sarawak Foundation last hosted the competition in 2013, and this year’s even will be held from Feb 10 to 19. — DayakDaily
