Inaugural ‘Serenading The Moon’ competition adds touch of music to mooncake festival

KUCHING, Sept 12: The organising committee for the 17th Kuching Intercultural Mooncake Festival (KIMF) together with the Kuching Old Market Community Association will be organising the inaugural ‘Serenading The Moon’ battle-of-the-bands competition in conjuction with the cultural event.

The preliminary round will be held at the Hokkien Association Opera Hall, Wayang Street from Sept 18-23 and its Grand Finale on Sept 24 at the same venue.

In a press statement yesterday, the organising committee revealed that the entrance fee for the competition is free. The winner gets RM2,000, a trophy and a certificate, while the first and second runners-up will get RM 1,000 and RM500 respectively, plus a trophy and a certificate each respectively.

There will also be three consolation prizes of RM 200 and a certificate each up for grabs.

The competition is open to to garage, church, professional and semi-professional bands here.

All participating bands must have a minimum of four (4) members. The bands will be required to play three (3) songs each with one (1) out of the three songs from a playlist provided by the organisers.The bands will be judged based on presentation, melody, appearance, stage presence and originality.

Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports, Datuk Snowdan Lawan will be the guest-of-honour.

Snowdan who received a courtesy call from the KIMF committee was happy to sponsor the event that brings the youth together. The event will also bring a contemporary twist to the festivities this year.
