Imprisoned man pleads guilty to injuring fellow inmate for ‘not respecting dormitory leader’

KUCHING, June 28: An imprisoned man was fined RM3,000 or sentenced to one year in jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for injuring a fellow inmate.

Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi imposed the sentence on Muhammad Shahadan Aramzi, 28, who pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code.

The accused was charged with intentionally causing harm to a 35-year-old man using a weapon capable of causing death, namely a bed iron rod, in an incident that occurred on May 9, 2024, around 8.30pm in the men’s dormitory at Puncak Borneo Prison.

According to the case facts, the complainant, a prison officer on duty that day, heard inmates shouting about a fight between two men in a cell.

Upon arriving at the scene, the complainant found the victim bleeding at the back of his head.

At the same time, the accused admitted to hitting the victim with a bed iron rod.

Following the incident, the victim was taken to Sarawak General Hospital for treatment, while the accused was detained for further action.

It was understood that the accused acted out of dissatisfaction with the victim, who he claimed did not respect the dormitory leader.

The accused was not represented by a lawyer. The prosecution was conducted by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin. — DayakDaily
