KUCHING, April 23: Strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) in pantries especially prohibiting co-workers from eating together without social distancing must be enforced in all offices in Sibu including government departments.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting said one way of doing it would be to allow only one person into the pantry at any one time to avoid close contacts and overcrowding, as practiced in the Sibu Resident Office.

He brought up this message in his Facebook live session today following his discovery from the Health Department that most Covid-19 cases in Sibu are from offices.

He was also made to understand that despite the disallowing of dine-in in coffee shops and restaurants, some people would take away their food and enjoy them together with colleagues in their offices.

“The government stopped (social activities like) dining in, but now you ‘dabao’ (take away) and eat in the office with your colleagues. That is the same as dining in,” he said.

Thus, he urged business owners or the management of such offices to implement and enforce the necessary SOPs to help contain the spread of Covid-19.

He said this applies to all government departments as well because their offices are also operating under the essential public services category. — DayakDaily
