KANOWIT, Nov 23: Sidak Sapi’ie is now living in a much more comfortable and conducive place that he can call home after the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) helped to repair his house in Kampung Hilir, here.

The 64-year-old Imam of Arrahman Mosque in Kanowit is one of the recipients under the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS) programme, and they were selected from the Welfare Department’s E-Kasih system.

“Alhamdullilah, I am very thankful and grateful for the assistance and Bomba’s effort in helping me,” Sidak said cheerfully when DayakDaily contacted him today.

According to Kanowit fire station chief Arrahman Chik, the work to repair Sidak’s house was done by eight firemen from Kanowit, Sibu and Sungai Merah stations.

“They started the work to repair the house on Oct 13, and it took them 10 days to complete. This is on purely ‘gotong royong’ and volunteer project to help the less fortunate. Although it is outside our job scope, this is one way for us to connect with the community,” Arrahman said when contacted.

The repair cost about RM13,000, and all the allocation was spent on building materials, while workmanship is totally provided by Bomba without being paid a single sen.
