KUCHING, Aug 27: Members of the public should play their part as the ‘eyes and ears’ for the local council to curb the irresponsible manner of illegal dumping.

In making the call, Minister for Local Government and Housing Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said in the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) area, there are incidences of illegal dumping of waste, improper disposal of rubbish around and outside the bulk bins, mud dropped on roads by trucks, abandoned derelict vehicles and vandalism.

“So we need the public to be the ‘eyes and ears’ in their respected community and take up the responsibility to recycle in order to make MPP a better place to live,” he said.

Dr Sim said this when attending the MPP’s 25th Commemoration Day ceremony which was held online through MPP Facebook, today.

He noted, no matter how much MPP has done for waste collection and enforcement, the community must also do their part and take responsibility.

Otherwise, he added, this indiscriminate disposal of rubbish, mud on roads and vandalism of public properties by recalcitrant offenders will recur. — DayakDaily
