KUCHING, Jan 6: The RM1.577 million Igan Waterfront Phase 3 project is on track for completion by March 25, 2026, with the development expected to further strengthen riverbank protection while enhancing public amenities in the area.
According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) Dato’ Murshid DiRaja Dr Juanda Jaya, said the project forms part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the Igan River through the construction of erosion control embankments.
He said the initiative aims to ensure long-term environmental protection while improving safety for communities living along the river.
Expressing confidence in the project timeline, Murshid, who is also Jemoreng Assemblyman, said residents are expected to be able to enjoy the upgraded waterfront facilities by Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“The Igan River Erosion Control Embankment Construction Project is an initiative to protect the river in this area. God willing, by March during Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the people of Igan will be able to enjoy the Igan Waterfront Phase 3,” he said, during a site inspection of the waterfront extension project yesterday.
He added that timely completion remains a priority, and at the same time, he also emphasised on the importance of maintaining construction quality and urged the contractor to strictly adhere to established building standards to ensure durability and consistency with earlier phases of the project.
He further called on village leaders, including the Community Chiefs and Heads (KMKK) and the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK), to facilitate project implementation and encourage residents to extend full cooperation to the contractor. – DayakDaily
