KUCHING, Nov 7: A man was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment by the Magistrate’s Court here today for threatening to harm his 71-year-old mother, all over RM5.
The accused, Nurazan, 36, from Kampung Tabuan, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan to one charge framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
According to the charge, he had said threatening words with the intent to cause fear of injury to his mother at their home in Kampung Tabuan around 12pm on October 5.
Based on the facts of the case, the incident occurred while the victim was in the kitchen when the accused demanded RM5 and warned her, saying, ‘Mun ko sik berik duit, ko siap ku paluk ko’ (If you don’t give me the money, I’ll beat you up).
Fearing for her safety, the mother lodged a police report.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the accused had acted aggressively during the confrontation.
Further checks showed that Nurazan had two prior criminal records related to drug offences and tested positive for drugs at the time of his arrest.
