KUCHING, Oct 1: The federal government should honour Sabah and Sarawak’s demand for one-third representation in Parliament as their sealed right as partners during the formation of Malaysia.
In stating this, Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) deputy president Dato Henry Harry Jinep referred to the formation of Malaysia as a marriage between the federation of Malaya and the Borneo regions to which he reminded the federal government to not forget its responsibility to take care of Sabah and Sarawak too.
He said with the marriage, the one-third parliamentary representation is not up for negotiation but instead, a call for the federal government to honour it as the Borneo regions’ right under Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“Why wait for people to ‘knock’ (negotiate) again when it is already sealed (under MA63)? You already agreed (during Malaysia’s formation).
“If you are married, take care of your children; take care of your wife take care of your family and your house. It is an institution.
“If you are married but you don’t take care of it, that is not right,” he told reporters after officiating at Pertubuhan Wartawan Bebas Kuching’s (Pewarta) ‘Etiquette Workshop for Journalists 2024’ at Imperial Hotel here yesterday (Sept 30). — DayakDaily
