KUCHING, Sept 29: Muara Tuang assemblyman Datuk Idris Buang says there is no way Sarawak Pakatan Harapan chief Chong Chieng Jen can escape from being held responsible for failing to fulfil election promises.
Idris believed that Chong who is also Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister is now trying to find a way out of this trapped situation.
“Trying to escape from the hauntings of your own failed promises, YB Chong? No way possible. Anyway, nice try,” said Idris in a statement today.
He said Chong, who is Kota Sentosa assemblyman is just “mincing his words” to “escape from his own failed promises”.
“Just watch some of the videos readily available in the public domain where he clearly ‘promised’ all those things like 20 per cent royalty and return 50 per cent income tax collected in Sarawak.
“Was it not him in those videos? Was it not him who put up the videos for the access of the public before GE14 (14th General Election)?”
Idris who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) information chief said there was even a video of Chong promised 20 per cent oil and gas royalty and the return of 50 per cent tax collected in Sarawak without condition while debating in Sarawak Legislative Assemblyman.
“Now that the PH is in power, what has he done? What has PH done to all these promises? Nothing. The hauntings seem to be forever.
“All these promises were made unconditionally as proved by one of the videos, contrary to his latest statement,” said Idris.
Idris was responding to Chong’s statement made today at a press conference where Chong said there were conditions attached when he made the promises of 20 per cent oil and gas royalty and 50 per cent tax collected to be returned to Sarawak if PH won GE14.
Some of the conditions, he said included Sarawak government needed to take total responsibility for its health and education expenses.
Chong also claimed that Sarawak government had turned down his offer and thus it was the Sarawak government which were to be blamed for the State’s failure to have 20 per cent oil and gas royalty and 50 per cent tax collected in Sarawak.— DayakDaily
