KUCHING, Oct 30: Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) president Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian hit back at allegations by Democratic Action Party (DAP) that he does not love Malaysia, and asserted that he loves Sarawak more.

Dr Sim told reporters this tonight after the lighting of the Padungan arch on Jalan Padungan here was switched on.

“Some say I don’t love Malaysia; I say I love Sarawak more. That is why I always say ‘Sarawakku Sayang’ (my beloved Sarawak) in my speeches.

“And it’s no surprise that DAP said I don’t love Malaysia because they are a West Malaysian political party that loves Malaysia to the point of forgetting Sarawak.

“Therefore, Sarawakians, you must recognise the truth, which is that they love Malaysia more than they love Sarawak,” he said.

Dr Sim, who is also the Sarawak Deputy Premier, asserted that elected DAP Members of Parliament (MPs) from Sarawak sometimes defend West Malaysia rather than Sarawak.

Meanwhile, on the lighting of the Padungan arch on Jalan Padungan, he thanked the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and its mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng for going above and beyond to raise funds to beautify Padungan by installing lights on the Padungan arch, revitalising it as the arch is an old part of Kuching that has stood for more than 100 years.

In addition, Wee opined that Padungan is the heart of MBKS, and that the council should explore how to revitalise the entire Jalan Padungan street so that it resembles Chinatown.

He added that they will soon upgrade the street lighting and install additional murals. — DayakDaily
