KUCHING, Feb 8: i-CATS University College will collaborate with international experts to explore the feasibility of Sarawak’s satellite launch capabilities using aircraft or floating vessels.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that he has instructed i-CATS University College chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain to work with experts from Turkey and other nations to develop the necessary expertise for Sarawak’s satellite launch ambitions.
“The latest technology I was informed about involves using aircraft or floating vessels to launch satellites without jeopardising the environment.
“This means we can use floating vessels to launch satellites, or aircraft that are specifically designed for releasing satellites,” he said during the Sarawak Multimedia Authority’s (SMA) Lunar New Year Dinner 2025 held at Sheraton Hotel here last night (Feb 7).
He added that these innovative approaches would significantly reduce environmental impact compared to traditional rocket launches.
Also present at the event were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian; Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin; Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi; Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; SMA Board of Directors member Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam; and SMA General Manager Dato Dr Anderson Tiong Ing Heng. – DayakDaily
