LUNDU, Oct 9: A 75-year-old male motorcyclist was killed while his 73-year-old female pillion rider was injured following an accident with a lorry near the U-turn of Kampung Sedemak on Jalan Lundu-Sematan today.
According to Lundu district police chief Supt Sudirman Kram, the lorry was travelling from Ladang Abadi Utama, Kampung Sedaing, towards Lundu town at around 10.10 am.
“Upon reaching the U-turn area at Kampung Sedemak along Jalan Lundu-Sematan, the lorry was exiting the U-turn when it was suddenly struck by the motorcycle, which was travelling straight from Sematan towards Lundu,” he said in a statement.
The motorcyclist sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was later brought to Lundu Hospital for a post-mortem.
The pillion rider, who is the motorcyclist’s wife, also sustained head injuries and was brought to Lundu Hospital before being transferred to Sarawak General Hospital.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — DayakDaily
