KUCHING, Feb 24: A man was killed while a woman was injured after the pickup truck they were in fell into a 15-metre ravine from the roadside at Kem Pelutan, Ulu Baram, Marudi, today.
In a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 12.49am, and firefighters from the Marudi station were deployed.
Following a size-up, the rescue team used safety ropes to descend into the ravine and confirmed that a male victim was still trapped inside the vehicle.
Firefighters, together with the victim’s family members, extricated the victim, Wan Anyi, placed him on a stretcher and carried him up to the roadside. The victim was then transported to a nearby clinic.
The female victim, who was the victim’s wife, had earlier been rescued by workers from Kem Pelutan and taken to Long San Clinic for further examination. She is reported to be in stable condition. — DayakDaily
