MARUDI, Feb 1: A married couple were arrested on Wednesday evening on suspicion of involvement in operating illegal online four-digit gambling activities.
The suspects, both locals, are aged 42 and 40-years-old.
Initial investigations revealed that the couple have been involved in receiving bets and collecting lottery stakes for a few months prior to the arrests.
The arrests were made at a coffee shop in Tinjar, Baram, at 4pm, led by ASP Mohd Ruslan Mat Kib, following a public tip-off.
Baram police chief DSP Gabriel Risut disclosed police also seized cash amounting to RM657, a handphone, simcard, a pen, and a calculator during the yesterday’s arrests.
Both suspects have been detained under police custody for questioning.
The case is being investigated under Section 4B(a) of the Commom Gaming House Act 1953. — DayakDaily
