KUCHING, Aug 13: The ‘Rock in the Jungle’ (RITJ) music festival returns for its second edition on Aug 29 and 30 at the Sarawak Cultural Village, featuring a star-studded lineup including local favorites Hujan, Indonesia’s Kotak, and Japanese rock legend Loudness, alongside rising local bands.

In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said concerts like RITJ not only entertain music fans but also create positive ripple effects for Sarawak’s tourism and economy.

“Events such as concerts, cultural festivals, or sports competitions attract visitors from both within and outside Sarawak. They stay, dine, shop for souvenirs, and explore tourist destinations, all contributing to the hospitality industry and local economy,” he said at a ‘Rock in the Jungle 2.0’ press conference at the Ministry’s Office in Baitulmakmur Building today.

He added that the ministry continuously supports major event organisers with financial assistance to reduce costs and keep ticket prices affordable.

“For RITJ 2.0, the cheapest tickets are priced at RM169, which is considered very reasonable compared to international concert prices,” he added.

Abdul Karim expressed optimism that, if held continuously, RITJ has the potential to grow into an event comparable to the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF), which now draws tens of thousands of visitors annually.

Festival director Sunil Mohamad described RITJ as more than just a music festival; it is a platform that brings together local and international talent while promoting Sarawak as a hub for music, culture, and creativity.

He noted that this year’s festival also emphasises sustainability and social responsibility, including educational initiatives encouraging eco-friendly practices among visitors.

Organisers are targeting an attendance of up to 12,000 visitors over the two nights, featuring popular bands including Fearless and Breathe In the Ocean.

In addition to the concerts, a ‘meet and greet’ session with the artists will be held on Aug 28 at Stars of States (SOS) starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are available at tickets.perk.asia. — DayakDaily
