KUCHING, Oct 28:  Kampung Haji Baki, Kuching is the first place in Sarawak that is experiencing a targeted Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) due to its accumulative 27 Covid-19 cases as of today noon.

Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang told DayakDaily that the EMCO will start from tonight 6 pm until Nov 11.

“This is the first time we are having a full lockdown. So people are not encouraged to leave their houses; they are to stay inside their houses, except to get food. We also don’t allow the whole family going out,” said Lo.

Lo who is also Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman said target EMCO has been placed on Haji Baki due to accumulated cases of 27 as of today noon following the first case since a week ago.

EMCO has to be implemented as the authorities perceive it (the infection rate) is going to get worse.

“We can’t lockdown with only one case.  When we see cases are increasing, we decided not to take any risk.  That is why we lockdown,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lo believed that Covid-19 in Kampung Haji Baki will soon be under control as it is quite a centralised village and can be managed quite easily.

“We just have to lockdown Kampung Haji Baki.  It will not affect other villages. I am sure by doing that we can control the Covid-19 cluster in Kampung Haji Baki,” said Lo.
