KUCHING, Oct 12: Kuching Water Board (KWB) and the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) worked together to flush out dirty water from the supply system upon receiving complaints of dirty water from taps.

At Muara Tabuan today, two officers from Bomba and two staff from KWB were seen flushing out dirty water following a complaint from a local resident.

A Bomba officer was first seen opening an underground fire hydrant with a gigantic cross wrench. Instantly, muddy water came gushing out like a small fountain.

After about 10 minutes, the dirty water started to turn clean and about 15 minutes later, the Bomba officer turned the flow of water off and replaced the cover on the underground hydrant.

“Sometimes, the flushing may take a shorter time while other times, it can be longer. It depends on how much dirty water to flush out.

“After the flushing of the pipe, treated water to houses will become clean,” explained one of the KWB staff.

He said KWB received a complaint from a resident who stayed down the lane that treated water to his house was dirty.

“Yesterday, we were also here but on the other side (pointing to the opposite side of a nearby park). Same complaints came from residents there and we did the same thing,” said one of the KWB staff.

Meanwhile, the Bomba officer explained that only the officers from the department are allowed to open the underground hydrant as it is meant to provide water in case of emergency.

“That is why KWB and Bomba have to work together to flush out accumulated dirty water in the system,” he said. — DayakDaily
