KUCHING, March 25: All educational institutions under the Ministry of Education (MoE) have been urged to enhance preparations and implement measures to cope with the hot weather as schools reopen following the end of Term 1 holidays.
In a press statement, MoE has outlined specific guidelines for schools to ensure student safety and well-being during periods of high temperatures:
- Postpone outdoor activities if temperatures exceed 35°C.
- Monitor activities that may expose students to extreme heat to protect their health.
- Ensure sufficient clean drinking water is available at schools and encourage students to bring their own water bottles.
- Advise and encourage students to hydrate adequately to regulate body temperature.
- Provide drinking water to boarding students if critical situations arise and no alternative source is available.
- Stay alert and coordinate with nearby clinics and hospitals in case of any heat-related health complications among students.
Schools are reminded to remain aware of local hot weather conditions and adhere to the established guidelines.
Special considerations may also be granted for students, teachers, and staff to wear appropriate sports attire during extreme heat, based on the needs and circumstances of each institution.
MoE emphasised that the health, safety, and well-being of all school communities remain a top priority. – DayakDaily
