KUCHING, Dec 31: As the new year approaches, political pundit Dato Peter Minos expressed hopes for a peaceful and more politically calm year ahead, with stronger social harmony across Malaysia.
In a statement today, he conveyed fatigue over political controversies and conflicts, urging politicians to move beyond racial and religious divisions.
“We are tired of those things. Stop playing racial and religious in whatever we do and say,” he said.
“We all want some peace too, for 2026. And a little joy,” he said, referring to the recent political shifts in Peninsular Malaysia, while touching on global issues such as the war in Ukraine.
Highlighting Sarawak as a model of harmony, Minos said, “For us in good old Sarawak, I think our election is coming after Gawai. (An) exciting time it will be. Good time too.
“Maybe GPS will swipe all as Sarawakians are generally happy and pleased with GPS and Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg),” he said, noting that the government’s consistent efforts to sincerely reward those who work hard for the betterment of the State.
“Sarawak is a land of true racial and religious harmony and unity among the races.”
Minos, who turns 77 next month, also shared his personal hopes for the year ahead.
“Really seeking for a happy and joyful 2026. Will be 77 by January 2026, and so, time to have it light and easy and more time with family and be free,” he said.
“May 2026 bring peace and joy to everybody. And be happy. For life is short, but can be wonderful if you wish for it,” he added. – DayakDaily
