SIBU, July 17: The choice of Sarawak to host the Malaysia Day celebration for two consecutive years is history in the making for all Sarawakians.
A Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth exco member, Henry Kanyan Vincent Rawing was elated with Sibu being chosen to host the Malaysia Day celebration on September 16.
“As a Sarawakian, I am very proud because the state will be hosting the celebration once again after Kuching last year. It is very rare for a state to host the event for two consecutive years and this is history,” he said today.
The theme for this year is “Malaysia Prihatin” in conjunction with the caring attitude of Malaysians regardless of race and religion in handling the Covid-19 epidemic.
Henry, who is a Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) councilor, thanked the Sarawak and federal governments for giving confidence to Sibu to organise the historic event.
“Indeed, I admit, the opportunity to host is a rare one,” he said.
He said the celebration is a symbol of unity of the people of various races, ethnicity and religions in this country.
“Besides that, it is a platform to enhance integration at the national level,” said Henry, who is also the chairman of the Batang Oya-Pakoh and Sekuau Area Development Association.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, Malaysia Day celebrations will be held with strict adherence to the standard operating procedures (SOP). -DayakDaily
