KUCHING, September 14: Himpu, short for “Himpunan Pelaku Usaha Mikro Kecil & Menengah Kota Pontianak”, from Indonesia will be making a presence at the coming 17th Kuching InterCultural Mooncake Festival (KIMF) 2018.

The festival’s committee confirmed the participation of this business outfit through the assistance of the Consulate General of the Republic here.

Co-organising chairman of the event, Sim Kiang Chiok, said he was delighted with Himpu’s participation.

“We hope the spirit of unity that we espouse in this event will help cement our already great relationship with our neighbours from across the border while at the same time give our event an added `International’ flair,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Sim said the committee had briefed Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah on the festival. He was accompanied by joint chairperson Amy Tnay Li Ping and several committee members to pay a courtesy call on Abdul Karim.

Sim said Abdul Karim visited the festival for the first time last year and was delighted with the experience.

“He (Abdul Karim) was thoroughly pleased with the treatment of the event, praising the painstaking effort made by our group of enthusiastic volunteers. He encouraged the committee to continue with our efforts in keeping with our goal, which is to foster and work on our unity among the different races in Sarawak,” added Sim.

He opined that the festival would be a truly intercultural one and would be good for both local and foreign tourists.

“It is in keeping with the government’s policy of moderation, showcasing understanding, peace and harmony among the various races in Sarawak through such an event,” he explained.

“Sim revealed that this year’s edition, which will be held from Sept 17 to 24, would feature over 100 booths. — DayakDaily
