SAMARAHAN, Oct 25: A new high level water tank has been proposed to be built on a six-acre land in Kampung Hijrah, Simunjan here to guarantee continuous water supply for those living in the area.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the project was proposed by Simunjan assemblyman Awla Idris several months ago.
He said Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) and Land and Survey Department (JTS) will soon discuss the matter, including the design stage.
“After that, we will apply for funding from the Sarawak government to build the high level tank.
“I will forward this matter to Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi to inform the Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on the need for the high level tank construction,” he told a press conference during a work visit to the site today.
He further explained that the proposed tank was necessary to complement the old Simunjan Water Treatment Plant and to guarantee continuous water supply to the Simunjan district, which is now growing in number of population.
He also said the proposed tank, if built, will only take up about one acre of the identified land.
“The water will be sourced from Simunjan Water Treatment Plant and the high level tank can store reserves that can last up to three days.
“This means if a water supply disruption occurs for three days, Simunjan will not be affected. That is why we need this high level tank,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
