High Court rejects accused’s application to withdraw charge for causing wife’s death

KUCHING, June 11: The High Court here today rejected the application of a man charged with causing the death of his Indonesian wife for the charge to be withdrawn.

Jong Siew Phin, through his assigned counsel Mohammad Fairuz Masri Azizi Morni had applied for representation for the charge to be withdrawn.


High Court Judge Lee Heng Cheong also fixed pre-trial case management of the case for July 18 and the trial date on July 29 to August 2.

Jong was charged with causing the death of his Indonesian wife at their house located in Kampung Bedup Longgok, between 7am to 1pm on February 9, 2018.

He was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries a mandatory death sentence, if convicted.

The victim was found dead with slash wounds to her neck.
