KUCHING, Dec 16: Local NGO Hidup is appealing to the public and relevant state ministries to assist a family with a special needs child  in Kampung Sagah, Bau to build their own house.

According to Hidup (Habitat for Indigenous and Urban Program) president George Young Si Ricord Jr, Peter Dion is currently employed as a watchman and his wife Mary is a housewife.

“They have no choice but to stay in a house with his three other siblings as they cannot afford their own due to having to look after their son who has Down Syndrome,” George said in a statement today.

“Most of Peter’s meagre income is spent on his 6-year-old son’s daily needs for diapers and milk,” George said.

As Kampung Sagah, a predominantly Bidayuh community, is under the Tupong constituency, George duly notified its assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman about Peter’s plight.

“And YB Fazzrudin responded positively by sending the ketua kaum of Kampung Sagah to investigate the case,” said George.
